You can make a difference, donate today.
SigmaCoding.org hopes to raise $130,000 in order to reach over 1,000 students during the 2019/2020 school year. Your donation will directly contribute to students access to STEM courses, ultimately impacting their future for the better. In addition, every contribution makes our STEM courses more readily available for students attending schools that lack extracurricular funding by reducing the cost of our classes. In addition to exposing as many students to STEM as possible, it is our aim to eliminate the cost of SigmaCoding.org courses at various underserved schools altogether.
Sigma Coding Courses are designed to provide students with early education in computer science, engineering, and applied physical science, all subjects which are not typically covered in formal K12 curricula. Sigma Coding primarily targets girls, under-represented ethnicities (Hispanic and African American), and low-income families.
Although Sigma Coding courses are available to both boys and girls, Sigma Coding has a particular interest in encouraging girls to pursue an education in the computing field. The national average for girls receiving Bachelor’s degrees in computing fields is 19%. We would like to facilitate the increase in the number of young girls entering the field, and research has shown that if girls are exposed to computer science or engineering fields before entering high school (and possibly middle school), they are more likely to pursue more difficult science and mathematics classes in the future. Since these fields do not have any inherent advantages based on gender, there is no reason the field should not support an equal population of girls and boys.
Please consider donating to help our program. Together, we can change the lives of hundreds of students.
